I hate to be the “I told you so” type, but I like to give credit where credit is due, and I’m fairly confident that I nailed my design trend predictions for both 2016<\/a> and 2017<\/a>. And now, looking forward into 2018, the interior design landscape is ripe with possibility, and I’m more excited now than ever before for what’s to come. I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled, I’ve been doing my homework, and following are my interior design trend predictions for 2018… <\/p>\n

\"Arch<\/a><\/em>Studio Lifestyle<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

\"[break]\"<\/a>ARCHES\"[break]\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

I’m telling you right now: curves and arches are huge<\/em> this year. From windows, to doorways, to pass-thrus and beyond, I’m seeing them far and wide these days, and I’m all for it. <\/p>\n

\n\"[break]\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

I’ve always preached the importance of details when it comes to design, and with that in mind have always been of the belief that your ceiling should never be an afterthought (it’s considered “the 5th wall” after all). This is becoming more and more apparent as of late, and I’m obviously fully on board. From applied mouldings, to shiplap, to exposed beams and beyond, ceilings are hot<\/em> and I’m a fan. <\/p>\n

While I’m still of the belief that chrome was never out,<\/em> there’s no question that it took a bit of a backseat to it’s brassier counterpart over the course of the last few years. And while burnished brass and tarnished gold will forever remain in my design arsenal, I do love the crisp clean look that chrome brings to the table, and I’m glad it’s getting a little more love as of late. <\/p>\n

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that this one’s a little harder to pull off. But given the right location, and in the perfect application, a softly curved couch is all the rage these days. I just love how this detail adds a flare of femininity, and just the slightest hint of playfulness, all while maintining its simplicity. It can almost be viewed as a sculpture or work of art, and for that I’m a fan.<\/p>\n

I added “lived in kitchens” to my list of design trends back in 2016<\/a>, and am pleased to announce that this one’s still going strong over two years later. As kitchens become more and more the heart of the home, the lived-in look has now evolved to include magic such as no (or little) upper cabinetry. Of course, this isn’t always do-able if you find yourself with a postage stamp of a kitchen. But if you’re blessed with enough real estate, it’s an incredibly impactful design detail. Omitting the uppers makes your lower cabinets feel more like furniture, ensuring it feels even more intertwined with the rest of your home. It’s airy, it’s beautiful, and I’m a huge fan. <\/p>\n

Okay, you’re going to have to hear me out on this one… Because, you guys, brown is back. I feel confident that blues and greys aren’t going anywhere anytime soon (I’m of the firm belief that they’re timeless and classic), but I have noticed a huge<\/em> shift towards warmer colour palettes as of late. It started last year with a resurgence of warm whites<\/a>, and now encompasses everything from tans and taupes to caramel and cognac, and beyond. In order to avoid a space that feels 70’s gone bad, the secret to this one is to bring it in through the use of natural materials. Lots of wood, woven baskets, soft linens, and leather moments are the name of the game, and I’m into it full tilt. <\/p>\n
