\nI look forward to the turn of a New Year for all of the quintessential reasons. It always brings about a clean slate, a fresh start, and a moment of reflection – one that begs you to take the time to think back to what was, and improve on what’s to come. 2016 was a great year in the design world, and while many of my predictions (which you can read about here<\/a>) still ring true, I’m excited to share what’s next, at least as far as I’m concerned. Following are my favourite design trends for 2017… \"applied-mouldings-1\"<\/a> \"applied-mouldings-2\"<\/a> \"applied-mouldings-3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Applied Mouldings<\/h3>\n

I debated whether or not to include this in my round up, as applied mouldings have been around for centuries. But there’s no doubt that they’re making a serious comeback as of late. I’m seeing them in projects far and wide – from ultra modern spaces, to super traditional ones. And they’re a great way to add texture, interest, and really play up contrast (my favourite tool of the bunch). There’s no question that, if done right, it’s the best way to set one space apart from all the others. A sleek and sexy couch set against an ornate crown is the ultimate in design sensibilities. <\/p>\n

Muddy Jewel Tones<\/h3>\n

While I truly believe that navy isn’t going anywhere fast, there’s no question that an emerald green hue, and similar jewel tones, are quickly following behind. That being said, my favourite way to tackle said tone (which I do worry will become a little too<\/em> trendy down the line – think: chevron, circa 2012), is in a muddied application. Not only is a muddied jewel tone a great way to incorporate today’s hottest hue, I’m confident it will feel timeless for years to come. <\/p>\n

\"painted-trim-1\"<\/a> \"painted-trim-2\"<\/a> \"painted-trim-3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Painted Trim<\/h3>\n

The painted trim tends to go hand in hand with the whole applied mouldings phenomenon. 2017 is bringing about a whole lot of drama, and I’m loving every minute of it. A moody room, with dramatic mouldings, is currently my kryptonite, and never fails to set my heart aflutter. Whether the room is painted out in its entirety, or the focus is placed on the mouldings itself, I’m seeing a lot of this look lately, and I’m totally and completely on board. <\/p>\n

\"warm-whites-3\"<\/a> \"warm-whites-2\"<\/a>Warm Whites<\/h3>\n

Much like navy, I truly believe that an all white room is here to stay. That said, I can’t help but notice a shift from a crisp and cool white, to a more greige-meets-taupe, lived-in vibe. I’ve kept this in mind while designing our home, and am very much a fan of the cozy factor it brings. <\/p>\n

\"wood-in-the-kitchen-1\"<\/a> \"wood-in-the-kitchen-2\"<\/a> \"wood-in-the-kitchen-3\"<\/a> \"wood-in-the-kitchen-4\"<\/a>Wood Kitchen Accents<\/h3>\n

I won’t lie, I’m still a fan of a crisp white kitchen, but having designed a hundred and one of them at this point, I’m starting to crave something different. Apparently I’m not alone with this sentiment as I’m seeing a huge resurgence of wooden kitchens popping up left right and centre. While I’m still not fully on board with an all wood kitchen (unless you know exactly<\/em> what you’re doing), a rustic wood accent is something I can truly appreciate. <\/p>\n
