\"2016<\/a>Just a few weeks before Christmas, I had the opportunity to attend the House and Home<\/a> design trends breakfast, and it was easily one of the highlights of my December. Good people, great food, and a passion for design? It’s kind of my kryptonite. While many of the trends Suzanne Dimma and her team are predicting for 2016 ring true for me, I’ve spent the last few weeks mulling over the things I’ve noticed when it comes to interior design as of late. From high contrast finishes, to the resurrection of shiplap, following are a few of my very favourite design trends for 2016. <\/p>\n

\"Black<\/a> \"High<\/a><\/h3>\n

High Contrast:<\/h3>\n

Peg-leg chairs paired with brutalist furniture, sleek lines in a timeless bathroom, or serious play with jet black and crisp white, drama and high-contrast are major design elements these days, and I seriously can’t get enough. <\/p>\n

\"Concrete<\/a> \"Masculine<\/a>
\nQuality Over Quantity: <\/h3>\n

Whether it’s the popular book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up<\/a>“, that has swept the nation, or our need to simplify our lives in a world of constant over-stimulation, I’ve noticed a huge shift when it comes to the items we’re bringing into our homes. Quality over quantity is a wonderful notion, and fewer, better, things is a mantra I think many of us can get behind. <\/p>\n

\"Dream<\/a> \"Beautiful<\/a><\/h3>\n

Shiplap:<\/h3>\n

While many of the spaces I’ve been drawn to as of late tend to be of the more modern variety, I can’t help but notice the resurgence of shiplap across the board. It bridges that gap between modern and traditional, and is really the most perfect solution for adding interest to a space, while maintaining simplicity. <\/p>\n

\"Elegant<\/a> \"Modern<\/a>
\nBlack Metals:<\/h3>\n

From faucets to four poster beds, brass has had a moment for quite some time now, but I’m of the firm belief that black is taking the reins. <\/p>\n

\"Dream<\/a>\"Modern<\/p>\n

Lived-In-Kitchens: <\/h3>\n

This notion isn’t new, but I’m excited to see it continue into 2016. Kitchens have always been the heart of the home, but in recent years there’s been a huge shift in making them feel more liveable. From hanging art, to decorating with table lamps, to built-in conveniences and beyond, the kitchen is quickly becoming an extension of one’s living space, and I’m all for it. <\/p>\n
